Fastest Year Ever

May was packed full of activities. Brent did not have to go in to work once. He did have to work some a research paper but the boys and I did an excellent job at distracting him. Our big adventure was our camping trip. We drove to Wisconsin's Devils lake. According to Owen "we climbed a big, giant, huge mountain."

The hill to the right is the "mountain"

Here we are at the top of the mountain

Eamon doesn't always make the family photo when he is strapped in the pack, so here he is with Devils door behind him

So to be perfectly honest. When I first learned we were moving to Iowa I had pictures of corn fields everywhere. Which is true. There are fields EVERYWHERE. But I didn't know there where trees here too. Seriously I thought there we were moving to a state without trees. I was amazed to find out that there are cave here. So we took a day trip to go exploring.

Cutest picture of the day

But our craziest adventure of the month is Eamon turing ONE. Yep our little boy is now one. He is on  the small size at 17.2 pounds. But his head is extra big, especially compared to his body size. So prepare yourselves for a overdose of cuteness

And no he did not even try his cake. He did eat a cupcake I gave him a few days earlier

Slacker

So I’ll just say I knew that was going to happen. By “that” I mean not post anything for months. My excuse is that I was busy…. really, really crazy busy. I started working outside the home as a nurse again and the orientation was a lot harder/longer than expected. Nonetheless, orientation is over and thing are returning to there naturally busy self.  Anyways enough about that lets move on to the real reason you are here… the boys.

Our extra fun activity this month was a trip to the fire station. While there the firemen received a call so they had to leave. Leaving us and twelve other moms with their kids alone at the fire station (a friend is a cousin to one of the firemen so there is a little bit of trust there). So Owen didn’t get to sit in the fire truck but there was an ambulance there that he enjoyed just as much. And to my surprise he put on the fire hat (he does not dress up for fun/play).

An Apple a Day Keeps the Dentist Away

When Owen was around 18 months old I took him to the dentist. Not because I was worried about his oral health but because I thought that is what good moms do. I picked out a pediatric dentist office thinking that it would be kid friendly.  Boy was I wrong.  The place looked like a insane asylum, everything was white and sterile looking. I am all for a sterile dentist office but they could have put up some fun pictures or a little splash of color. And the staff was not friendly, its like they have never had a crying baby in the office before. One lady kept on shaking a bobble head Santa pen that lit up in front of his face. Needless to say the experience was horrible and I did not make a 6 month follow up appointment.

Well I am much older and wiser now.  While I was in no rush to take him back to the dentist I thought we could give it another try. No special office this time. We made an appointment at the same place I get my teeth cleaned. The hygienist was so nice and explained everything so well to Owen. She even let him touch everything. And Owen was amazing. He sat in the chair got all his teeth cleaned and even flossed. Not one tear was shed!

2014 A Year in Review

Last year was quite possible my busiest year ever. Here is a quick recap of last year

January- The year started off uneventful for us. Owen got his first "bike" for Christmas and wanted to ride it everyday. So we would find new trials to explore.

February- Owen announced the arrival of his little brother scheduled to arrive in mid July.

March- We learned we are moving to Iowa for Brent to start his new job as a internal medicine resident. Owen needs a drink to help process all the new changes going on. (It is apple cider)

April- My parents come to visit and spoil Owen. I also realize I don't have any photos with the both of them and Owen.

May- Little brother made his arrival 2 months early at 4 pounds 1 ounce. He spent a month in NICU to sleep and gained 2 pounds, among other things. We named him Eamon

June- 2 days after graduating from NICU Eamon and I flew to our new home in Iowa, where he continued to sleep

July- Owen meets Eamon for the second time, and our family of 4 is finally together again. Thanks again mom for taking Owen for 6 weeks and flying him from Alaksa to Iowa

August- Brent is busy at work while Owen "helps" me with Eamon. He enjoys being a big brother and wants to hold him over and over again. We also venture out and explore Iowa City. I  also start to meet some other mamas with little one which is nice for both Owen and I.

September- Things start to slow down a little bit. We venture out of town (not to far just a 20 minute drive) and continue to explore our new city before it turns cold

October- The holiday season has officially started and our days are filled with holiday themed activities. Owen dressed as a "ribbit" and according to Owen Eamon was an X-Ray

November- Things start to get a little colder and we start looking for indoor activities to keep us entertained. We got a pass to the Children's Museum and Owen wants to go there everyday now. Brent worked Thanksgiving night but woke up early to spend sometime with the family.

December- Owen turned THREE. It is crazy how much he as grown up in just this last year. He is FULL of energy and does not want to miss a thing. His favorite toy is his trains, favorite color is green and mommy is his favorite person ever.

Starting things off

Brent has told me more than once to start a blog. I don't know why. It does seem to be the thing to do the past few years. I never had any interest in doing a blog. Mostly because I knew what was going to happen. I would be faithful in the beginning, posting often, keeping it updated and feeling really good about it.  But as time would pass and I would start slacking. But I would never forget about it.  No it would always be there, in the back of my mind, nagging me, make me feel like I failed again. So I thought it would be best to never start.

So you may be wondering why am I starting one now?

That is a really good question.

Well, mostly I have been wanting to be better at keeping the family up to date with what is happening in our lives. I thought about sending out a monthly e-mail but apparently I can fill up their storage space from photos. That also seems like more work. And lastly what a fun way to document your children's lives. Who doesn't enjoys looking back reminiscing on their past seeing how far they have come.

So there you have it. 2015 is just around the corner. So my news year resolution is to keep this blog up to date. Do not expect an update every day. My goal is once a month. I may do more. But for right now I am keeping things realistic.
